A linguistically knowledgeable viewer might notice the following features:

• The word order of Monastic Sign Language follows the English word order
• Sometimes phonological similarities with English are used for certain words; '4 + give' become 'forgive'
• Similarly, the fingerspelled letters 'B' and 'W' are used for 'be' and 'will'
• Words don't correspond 1: 1 to signs. Some sentences are expressed a bit differently in each language, and some English words correspond to Monastic Sign Language compounds existing of multiple signs. For instance, 'kingdom' in English corresponds to 'soldier + crown + courtyard' in Monastic Sign Language
• Similarly, instead of having a different sign for 'we', Monastic Sign Language combines 'you + me'
